Pioneers of the RAD: Focus on Tamara Karsavina (Webinar)
Online

The webinar will introduce one of the founders of the Royal Academy of Dance, by briefly examining the context and career of Tamara Karsavina (1885-1978) – a pioneer of ballet pedagogy in the 20th century.

The webinar will explore the key influences in Karsavina’s training and performance career. Participants will gain insight into the four schools of training that were drawn upon at the Imperial Ballet School at the end of the 19th century. Analyses of extracts from her Karsavina Syllabus created in 1954, alongside reviewing a selection of writings from The Dancing Times and two books published by Karsavina, will generate an awareness of the pioneering work undertaken by this founder member of the RAD.
