Pioneers of the RAD: Focus on Phyllis Bedells (Webinar)

Online

This webinar will introduce participants to one of the founders of the Royal Academy of Dance, by briefly examining the context and career of Phyllis Bedells (1893-1985) – a pioneer of ballet pedagogy in the 20th century.

The webinar will explore the key influences in Bedells’ training and her performance career. Participants will gain insight into writings by Bedells, which exemplified her thinking and practices in the teaching of ballet. Analyses of extracts from her solo choreography devised for teachers and published in the Dancing Times (December issues, 1942-1946), alongside reviewing a selection of writings from The Dancing Times and the autobiography published by Bedells, will generate an awareness of the pioneering work undertaken by this founder member of the RAD.

Visit the webinar page for more information.
