Tushna Dallas (India)

Tushna Dallas (India)

Tushna Dallas (1942-2018), was the first RAD teacher in India.

Tushna was a Fellow of the ISTD and graduated from the London College of Dance and Drama in 1962 with a distinction in Teaching. She qualified in eight disciplines of the ISTD.

In September 1966 Tushna founded the first RAD school in India, The School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance.

She pioneered the first RAD ballet exams in Mumbai in 1980 with the support and encouragement of the then RAD Principal, Ms Patricia Mackenzie, Tushna’s mentor and teacher from London College.

Ballet was Tushna’s life. She imparted her values of life she learnt through ballet to her numerous students over the years. The greatest reward for her was when her students said ‘thank you for not just teaching us ballet, but for what ballet has brought into our lives.’

She will always be remembered as one of the pioneers of Western classical ballet in India

The school celebrated the RAD’s 75th anniversary in Mumbai in June 1995, with demonstrations and a performance with Susan Danby, the RAD’s principal at the time as the Chief Guest.

The school now looks forward to celebrating the RAD’s centenary with a performance in Mumbai in November 2020, under the Directorship of Tushna’s daughter Khushcheher Dallas.
