Contact:

A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain a detailed understanding of the steps and movements of each of the Variations at Advanced Foundation (male and female) level. Learning activities will focus on the development of correct technique through the progression of vocabulary, differences in music and style for each variation. The course will also provide the opportunity to discuss the related examination assessment criteria and exercises for the development of correct technique.

Aims

The aims of this workshop are to:

  • Boost participant’s confidence in teaching the variations for the Advanced Foundation (Male and Female) syllabus variations through enhancing their knowledge and understanding of technique, style and musicality.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique and movement quality in each variation,
  • demonstrate physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the correct style and performance elements for each variation, and
  • discuss musical interpretation.

On completion of the workshop, you will have knowledge and understanding of:

  • approaches to help learners develop excessive and confident performance,
  • the relationship between elements of technique, style, musicality and overall performance outlined above, and
  • the assessment criteria for Examinations (female and male)

Includes practical exercises and group activities in the studio with your tutor and fellow teachers.

Required preparation

  • Familiarity with the Advanced Foundation variations through the DVD and syllabus book
  • · Study the vocabulary in the variations and refer to the Foundation and Progressions of Classical Ballet publication to ensure that teachers have an understanding on how the movements and steps should be executed

Tutor

Anna Veretennikova

Anna trained with Valeria Hansen in Rockhampton before undertaking full time classical studies with Scully Borovansky under Messrs Nellie Potts and Kathleen Daintree, achieving her RAD Solo Seal. After receiving a scholarship, she moved overseas to commence training with the Centre de Danse Internationale de Rosella Hightower and undertook classes with Marika Bessobrasova, Raymond Franchetti, Gibert Mayer, Carolyn Carlson and Matt Mattox. Anna joined the Ballets de Marseilles before taking up a contract for two years with Contemporary Company The Ballet Theatre – Joseph Russillo in Paris.

On her return to Australia, Anna performed with the Adelaide based company, Australian Dance Theatre under the directorship of Elizabeth Dalman. It was during this time that her love of teaching began and she became a senior teacher for Rex Reid at the newly formed Australian Dance Theatre School. Anna performed in the South Australian Opera production of Die Fledermaus and was included on the teaching staff at the inception of the College of the Performing Arts. In 1979 Anna moved to Melbourne where she was a faculty member of the Victorian College of the Arts, School of Dance for 7 years. Then in 1988 she decided to commence her own Dance School – Dance Partners, Albert Park. Up until 2000 Anna was a senior teacher for the Tony Bartuccio Dance Centre and The Australian Conservatoire of Dance teaching the two genres of classical ballet and contemporary. In 2003 Anna was appointed a Grades Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and currently holds the status of RAD Tutor for both Teacher and Student Courses. Anna fulfills the rest of her busy year with freelance teaching and tutoring and resides in Brisbane.
