Step 1 of 13
You are applying for the Certificate in Dance Teaching program starting in January 2027. This program is delivered part-time through distance learning.
Before you begin, please read the following important information about eligibility requirements and the application process:
If you have not completed the RAD Intermediate Examination (previously Elementary), you must complete additional concessionary (video) requirements:
More details will be provided at the end of this form about video applications.
If you have completed the RAD Intermediate (or a higher level exam), you do not need to submit a video.
Admissions statement In assessing applicants for the CDT program consideration will be given to the potential of the applicant to be successful in that program of study. Entry requirements and selection criteria will not exclude applicants on grounds of gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, socio-economic background, nationality, age or ethnic origin. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be confident that they can cope with the physical demands of the program. Teaching qualifications offered by the RAD are of UK Higher Education standard. Students who have followed the Canadian route to a High School Diploma will therefore normally be 18 years of age on admission. The RAD recognises, however, that applicants will be at different stages of maturity and prior learning irrespective of age on application and will judge each application on its merit, subject to the legal requirements on individuals charged with the supervision of children. Places on Faculty of Education (FoE) programs are limited. Offers will be made to applicants with the highest academic and/or professional potential.
Disability statement The Royal Academy of Dance Faculty of Education will treat all applicants and students equally, and makes every reasonable effort to ensure that no applicant is disadvantaged through disability and/or special educational needs. All applicants must meet the prescribed program entry requirements, and will be selected on the basis of demonstration of an acceptable level of ability within the program specific Selection Criteria. Over and above this, the needs of each applicant with disabilities will be investigated and negotiated with the individual on a case by case basis to ensure that any reasonable adjustment possible is made to ensure they will not be disadvantaged. Applicants should familiarise themselves with the full Royal Academy of Dance policy on Equality and Diversity, copies of which are available on request from Registry.

The CDT is delivered in nine languages and where possible in the first language of the teaching centre country, subject to there being viable numbers recruited to the program in that country. If more than one language is spoken, the RAD retains the right to determine the language of delivery.
Please note that if the language of delivery is not your first language; it is your responsibility to ensure that you are able to read, write and speak proficiently in that language. If you are considering studying in English, and this is not your first language, please visit the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) website. Although the test is not required it is a good indicator of the standard of English required for the program, students should achieve a score of 6.5 in the IELTS test, with no subset lower than a 6.0.
The Faculty of Education considers all applicants primarily on merit and academic potential. However, it is essential for us to know the nature of any reasonable adjustments in advance so that we may advise you on what adjustments and arrangement may be available.
If you have a disability or medical condition which may affect your ability to study the program please let us know:
If you have a disability or medical condition as stated above, you will be directed to our Student Support services and asked to supply documented evidence of this.
A formal assessment of your disability, medical condition or specific learning need by an appropriate professional is required before those needs can be incorporated into your education provision from the Faculty of Education.
This may have been done fairly recently before coming to the RAD, in which case all that is needed is to provide the Faculty of Education with a copy of the paperwork. The RAD may request you undertake further assessments in order to understand better your needs in relation to studying in higher education.
Delays in formally reporting your circumstances may result in there being insufficient time to put in any necessary reasonable adjustments for assessments. The Faculty of Education will make a realistic assessment and advise on those exceptional situations where the level of support cannot be met.
