Exploring Repertoire in Ballet Teaching (London)
This practical workshop will focus on two contrasting sections of ballet repertoire: Coppélia and Giselle.
Through performance of Czardas from Act I of Coppélia and excerpts from ‘Dance of the Wilis’ from Act 2 of Giselle, this half-day practical workshop introduces ways in which group repertoire can be adapted by teachers to extend ballet practice beyond an examination syllabus. Participants will be introduced to the historical contexts of the selected repertoire, analysis of key movement phrases, and the creation of training exercises to help learn key movement motives, style, and technique. Participants will also be guided in how to construct creative tasks around the selected repertoire and implement peer feedback to support students in becoming reflective learners.
