This course is open to all ballet teachers. It is recommended for early and mid-career teachers.

A half-day practical course in which participating teachers will be able to review and build on their existing knowledge and understanding of the Grade 5 syllabus exercises. This course is recommended for those who have completed the Introduction to Grades 4 and 5 Teachers’ Course and want to revisit key aspects.
Aim
The aims of this activity are:
- to provide an overview of syllabus exercises allowing teachers to refresh and expand their existing knowledge in relation to the syllabus content,
- to exemplify the required movements as notated in the publication, The Foundations of Classical Ballet Technique,
- to clarify the process, methodology, music and development of the vocabulary and choreography found in the syllabus, and
- to provide an opportunity for teachers to understand the Mark scheme and how these apply to the preparation of students for assessment: Examinations, Class Awards and Solo Performance Awards where appropriate.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the activity, you will have in depth knowledge and understanding of:
- The development of the vocabulary, choreography and music found in the syllabus,
- The vocabulary used in Grade 5 in relation to the publication, The Foundations of Classical Ballet Technique,
- The methodology and processes of teaching Grade 5, and
- The Mark scheme and how it applies to the preparation of students for assessment: Examinations, Class Awards and Solo Performance Awards.

Recommended Preparation
Participants should have knowledge of the exercises of the RAD Grade 5 syllabus, and knowledge and understanding of the Specifications relating to Grades 5.
Tutor
Lesley Cox FIDTA AISTD RAD RTS
After many years of freelance teaching and choreographic work, Lesley started her own dance school in 2000. She is also co-creator of a youth dance company, which has staged many successful productions of ballet classics and other creative works.
Experienced in teaching all ages, Lesley has run teacher training courses within her school and, in recent years, has worked increasingly with adult dancers of all abilities from beginners to professional performers.
Lesley is an RAD examiner and CPD tutor for graded and vocational levels and travels extensively in these roles.
