Inside the Exam CPD Course (Bristol, UK)
The course takes an in-depth look at the examination process in general, and at the RAD marking criteria in particular. The course includes practical information about the way that an examination is run, and also gives more detail about what an examiner is looking for when they watch and mark an examination. This course will help teachers to identify key areas where they can work with their students to develop their response to RAD marking criteria, and therefore improve their students’ examination results. A question and answer session will complete the course.
Aims
The aims of this course are to:
- outline the basic format of RAD examinations,
- focus on and explain specific examination criteria,
- identify ways to improve candidates’ performance in an exam scenario, based on knowledge of the RAD examination criteria,
- provide the opportunity to become more familiar with RAD Primary in Dance, Grade 3, Grade 5, and Intermediate Foundation syllabus levels, and
- give teachers the opportunity to engage in discussion regarding the examination process and examination criteria.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the activity, you will:
- have increased your knowledge of RAD syllabus content and examination procedures,
- have gained greater breadth of knowledge regarding the RAD examination criteria, and be able to apply this knowledge in your teaching, and
- be able to use the content of the course to help evaluate and improve your work as a teacher.

Recommended Preparation
Prior to the course, it is recommended that you:
- review relevant examination documentation such as the specifications and RAD Primary in Dance, Grade 3, Grade 5, and Intermediate Foundation syllabus material, and
- reflect on any specific examination-based queries that you would like covered during the session.
Tutor
Emily Anne Koschyk RAD Teaching Dip Dip LCDD ISTD DDE
Emily trained at London College of Dance and Drama in Bedford and graduated with Distinction in Teaching Studies.
In 1988, she moved to Germany and danced in national television and theatre productions. She taught in various schools around the country before opening her own school in 1998.
During this period, she also led a full-time 3-year teacher-training programme, from which many young aspiring teachers successfully graduated.
In 2020, Emily relocated back to the south of England and now teaches on a freelance basis. She conducts workshops and teaches at various summer schools in Europe.
Since its inception in 2004 Emily has been a tutor for a number of modules of the Royal Academy of Dance’s CBTS and tutors on the PDPTC Programme based in Berlin. She is an examiner and has been invited to be a CPD tutor for all levels from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2 and travels extensively in these roles.
