Introduction to Grade 2 CPD Course (London, UK)

A one-day practical introductory course focusing on the set exercises of the Grade 2 syllabus and, where appropriate, discussing appropriate teaching points, strategies and methodology. Participants will be provided with syllabus detail for the set exercises, with brief references to the examination marking criteria and running of the exam day.

Please note, the classical and character dances will not be covered in this course.


The aims of this course are:

  • To learn the set exercises in the Grade 2 syllabus through explanation and physical participation,
  • To improve participants’ understanding of syllabus expectations,
  • To ensure accuracy of the settings,
  • To reflect on appropriate teaching methodology relating to the set exercises, and
  • To improve understanding of the logistical running of the exam and mark scheme, in relation to the set exercises.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, you will:

  • Have an understanding and knowledge of the set exercises of the Grade 2 syllabus,
  • Have an understanding of the required technique for the set work,
  • Be able to recall settings with accuracy,
  • Be able to reflect on the most effective teaching methodologies when teaching the set work, and
  • Have increased understanding of the expectations regarding the running of the exam with reference to uniform and format, as well as knowledge of the markscheme.

Recommended Preparation

Participants should purchase the Grade 2 syllabus book and watch the Grade 2 DVD/video on the RAD app prior to the commencement of the course. Participants should also read through the Specifications.


Emily Anne Koschyk RAD Teaching Dip Dip LCDD ISTD DDE

Emily trained at London College of Dance and Drama in Bedford and graduated with Distinction in Teaching Studies.

In 1988, she moved to Germany and danced in national television and theatre productions. She taught in various schools around the country before opening her own school in 1998.

During this period, she also led a full-time 3-year teacher-training programme, from which many young aspiring teachers successfully graduated.

In 2020, Emily relocated back to the south of England and now teaches on a freelance basis. She conducts workshops and teaches at various summer schools in Europe.

Since its inception in 2004 Emily has been a tutor for a number of modules of the Royal Academy of Dance’s CBTS and tutors on the PDPTC Programme based in Berlin. She is an examiner and has been invited to be a CPD tutor for all levels from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2 and travels extensively in these roles.
