20 June 2021
RAD Dance Challenge – Vocational Graded Candidates
This years’ Dance Challenge competition will be held virtually, with candidates submitting a filmed performance of their solo, making the competition more accessible to eligible RAD students in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
A chance to celebrate and reward emerging young dancers, and their teachers, as they embrace choreography and performance, the Dance Challenge gives candidates the opportunity to be part of a creative process. Candidates at each level will be judged on the performance of their solo, to be choreographed by themselves, their teacher or peer.
NEW this year, candidates will participate in live Masterclasses with our esteemed faculty, Dr. Susie Cooper and Lauren Cuthbertson, Principal of The Royal Ballet.
Candidates will be required to send their choreographed solo, of up to 1.30 minutes, via We Transfer, before the deadline of 24 May.
The second key date, Sunday 20 June, will be filled with inspiring Masterclasses and the Prize Giving.
The Antoinette Sibley Scholarship will be presented to the overall winner of each level, with prize money of £750 awarded to each candidate. The Dame Antoinette Sibley Scholarship fund was established in 2012 to mark the retirement of the Academy’s third president.
A Choreographic Award of £250 will be given to one winner across both levels. This has been made possible by funding generously provided by the Lynn Wallis Bursary Fund, established in honour of the Academy’s former Artistic Director.
All candidates must be resident in the UK and the Republic of Ireland studying with an RAD Registered Teacher.
