Step Live Festival 2020

A festival of dance for young people that looks back at 100 years of dance. Part of the RAD’s centenary.

Subject to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, we currently plan to run Step Live Festival as scheduled, and are liaising with The Southbank Centre in regards to this.

This year, the Step Live Festival is back, as an all-day event on Thursday 9 July, at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank. There will be two performances 14.45 – 16.30, and 18.30 – 20.30.

The festival will feature appearances by school groups from across London and Essex as well as a performance by our Step Companies and guest appearances.

In true Step into Dance fashion, the day will end with a bang, with our Mass Performance Choreography – an opportunity for a number of groups to come together for the festival finale.

How to get involved

The theme for this year’s festival is 100 years of dancereferencing the plethora of dance styles from the past to the future.

All school groups already on the Step into Dance programme can apply to perform at the Step Live Festival. Simply take part in one of the Step Around Town performances, or the Day of Dance.

If your group takes part in either of these events, they will automatically be put forward into the selected to perform in this year’s Step Live Festival 2020. You will be notified about whether your group has been successful will be between 1 – 19 May.

If you’re a school that’s not on the Step into Dance programme and you’d like to take part, it’s not too late. Simply send us your information here and we’ll be in touch.
