Top tips

I would say the secret to capturing a great dance image is anticipation. So my top tip in this sense is: be ready! The best moments are always difficult to recreate. Make sure your camera is set up with the correct settings. For example if you are using artificial lighting make sure it’s all set up to your liking. If you want to freeze motion you must make sure you have a fast shutter speed. It’s pays to be ready!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Visualise the moment! If you know the movement well then you already have a good idea in your head what to expect.

What’s your favourite dance image you’ve taken and why?

It is difficult to say which is my favourite, but I was pleased with this one from Dance Proms. I love the expression of the dancer and the intensity and determination you can see etched on his face. It’s a nice mid-air action shot which isn’t easy to snap under tricky low light conditions.
