Top tip
During shooting dance photography, we need to think about what we present, eg. story, movement, stop motion etc. Sometimes photographers will shoot tonnes of pictures so that they can choose the best picture. Safety at your shooting locations is also very important.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
You don’t need professional photography equipment. Movement, story and safety are the most important in dance. Communicate well with the dancer before, e.g. what will their outfit be, the weather, location and photography style.
What’s your favourite dance image you have taken and why?
My favourite dance image is a work with Hong Kong Ballet Dancer Zhiyao Chen. We went to an old house with a broken door and a tree in the background. The dancers’ pose makes a connection with the architecture and nature.
