Genée 2013 underway
This year's Genée International Ballet Competition is underway in Glasgow, Scotland.

The UK's third-largest city is playing host to 58 candidates, all aged between 15 and 19 and between them representing 14 countries:

  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Hong Kong
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • New Zealand
  • Oman
  • South Africa
  • Spain
  • Thailand
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America

Candidates are vying for a range of awards including gold, silver and bronze medals, and the Audience Award to be voted for by a sell-out Finals audience on Sunday 29 September. This year will also see the dancers compete for the first time for the Dancers' Own Choreographic Award, sponsored by Mondor; this will recognise excellence in choreography, either by the dancer him/herself, or by a teacher or peer.

Lynn Wallis, Royal Academy of Dance Artistic Director and member of the Genée 2013 Faculty, is tweeting daily about the process of coaching the candidates as they prepare for the semi-Finals on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 September.
