Phyllis Bedells Bursary 2014
The 2014 Phyllis Bedells Bursary took place at RAD headquarters on Sunday 16 March.

We had 15 talented young dancers taking part in this year's bursary, named in honour of Phyllis Bedells, a founder member and Vice-President of the RAD.

The day opened with a welcome from RAD Artistic Director Lynn Wallis FISTD. The candidates then took class with renowned tutor Hilary Clark (Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance), accompanied by Martin Cleave. Set Variations and Repertoire Variations (from Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia and Giselle) followed, with Richard Norriss accompanying.

The candidates performed their variations in front of an audience and judges Jacqueline Ferguson FRAD ARAD FISTD Dip. LCDD, Valerie Aitken ARAD PDTC dip and Gary Avis, Ballet Master at the Royal Ballet.

The bursary was awarded to Rebecca Mabin (pictured above with the judges).

Rebecca was a Royal Ballet School Junior Associate in London from 2007–09. On leaving, she began training with Susan Robinson in Byfleet. Since then, Rebecca has danced with the Bolshoi and Mariinsky, and has excelled in all of her graded and vocational RAD exams. More recently, she competed in the Prix de Lausanne pre-selection and Youth America Grand Prix semi-finals.
