Professional Dancers’ Postgraduate Teaching Certificate launches in Australia
For more than 40 years the PDTC has been bringing the RAD's worldwide teaching qualification to dancers across the globe from its base in the UK and in Europe but this is the first time the course will be offered in the southern hemisphere.

The PDPTC is a one year part-time programme, combining distance learning with an onsite intensive study period held in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Starting in July, this flexible programme of study accommodates dancers’ rehearsal, performance and work schedules or teaching commitments, and provides a secure platform for a career in teaching.

The programme begins with an onsite induction seminar, followed by a period of distance learning. For four weeks in January, students attend an intensive study period in Sydney over the summer break.

The intensive study period comprises practical sessions, lectures, seminars, discussion groups and tutorials. Students also undertake a teaching placement in a dance school or teaching context of their choice, supported by a mentor and practical teaching supervisor.

Those successfully completing the PDPTC will be eligible to become Registered Teachers of the RAD, and will benefit from the exclusive right to enter candidates for RAD examinations as well as becoming part of a highly respected international community of dance professionals.

For more information, see the PDPTC page on the RAD Australia website.

I am deciding which would be the best course for me and have a couple of questions.
Could you please tell me if there is a difference in content between the Professional Dancers Postgraduate Teaching Certificate and the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies.
Also, on completion of the Professional Dancers Postgraduate Teaching Certificate, would I be qualified to apply for the Diploma in Dance teaching?

Dear Laura,
The PDPTC is designed for professional dancers wishing to prepare for a new career in teaching, or for dancers who are already teaching but wish to gain an RAD teaching qualification. It draws on their experience as a professional dancer and prepares them for a career in dance teaching. The CBTS programme provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required by ballet teachers at the start of their teaching careers and looks at how to teach the RAD syllabus.

More detailed programme information can be found on the programme pages:[…]/which-programme.

We've not really considered a progression from the PDPTC programme to the DDTS programme as the PDPTC sits at a higher level already.

Is it possible/advised for a UK resident/citizen to do this or other Australian based courses? Plan would be to do the Distance Based Learning from UK but attend full time elements in Australia
Thank you

Dear Monica,

It is possible for a UK resident/citizen to complete our Australian based programmes.
However it important that you are happy and committed to travelling to Australia for the onsite elements.

With best wishes,

Thank you for response to my previous Q. In addition to the PDPTC, what other training courses would be available whereby some study takes place in Australia?
Thank you

Dear Monica,

The only other programme whereby some study takes place in Australia is our Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies programme (which we run in multiple countries). In the CBTS programme there is a 10 day Intensive Study Period during the 1st year of the programme (in Australia if you join the Australian cohort).

The only other thing I would suggest is to look into our entirely distance-learning programmes which can be studied from wherever you live (for example Diploma in Dance Teaching Studies).

All info can be found here[…]/which-programme

With best wishes,
