Open sessions

We are delighted to be hosting Open Sessions, a series of free taster classes throughout the weekend, taught by RAD teachers Carla Pinchen and Lorna Proctor. Reserve your place!

All taster classes are free but places are limited. To reserve your place, visit the RAD stand at the event. Places will be given on a first come, first served basis, so reserve your place early!

TIME ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE: DANCE TASTER ZONE – SATURDAY 19 OCTOBER
10:00 – 10:45 Preparation for turning (ages 12+)
A chance to learn and develop methods for turning in dance, including balancing and spotting techniques.
11:00 – 11:45 Discovering Repertoire Taster Level 2 (aged 12+)
An insight into our new classical ballet performance programme – follow the barre and centre preparatory exercises and development exercises that lead to the performance of a repertoire variation from Coppélia or Giselle
12:00 – 12:45 RAD Grade 4 Taster Ages 8 plus (or studying at that age)
A chance to experience exercises and preparatory work from the RAD Grade 4 syllabi. Working together with an RAD teacher you will learn key components from the grade.
13:00 – 13:45 Preparing for pointe work
Students preparing for vocational classes/grades A discussion with an RAD registered teacher, incorporating advice and tips on how to prepare for pointe work within the RAD Vocational grades.
14:00 – 14:45 Safe Flexibility
A chance to learn and experience safe methods of gaining flexibility which will involve fascial mobilisation, breathing exercises and self-massage techniques to improve flexibility and decrease restriction to provide an intelligent and safe approach to achieving goals.
15:00 – 15:45 Boys Taster
High-energy workshops designed specifically for boys and led by a RAD tutor.
16:00 – 16:45 Preparation for turning (ages 12+)
A chance to learn and develop methods for turning in dance, including balancing and spotting techniques.
17:00 – 17:45 Ballet Body Conditioning
This class combining Pilates, body conditioning with a focus on core strength, stretching and ballet based floor work. BBCon improves flexibility, strength, fitness levels, stamina and coordination, toning the whole body.
TIME SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER
10:30 – 11:15 Discovering Repertoire Taster Level 2 (aged 12+)
An insight into our new classical ballet performance programme – follow the barre and centre preparatory exercises and development exercises that lead to the performance of a repertoire variation from Coppélia or Giselle.
11:30 – 12:15 Boys Taster
High-energy workshops designed specifically for boys and led by a RAD tutor.
12:30 – 13:15 Safe Flexibility

13:30 – 14:15 Stage presence and preparing for dancing in front of an audience
A discussion with an RAD registered teacher, incorporating advice and tips on stage presence and performing for an audience whether this be an exam, competition or show.
14:30 – 15:15 Discovering Repertoire Taster Level 2 (aged 12+)
An insight into our new classical ballet performance programme – follow the barre and centre preparatory exercises and development exercises that lead to the performance of a repertoire variation from Coppélia or Giselle.
15:30 – 16:15 Ballet Body Conditioning
