RAD Teacher takes part in the Queen's Baton Relay

The Commonwealth Games are now in full swing, but leading up to the event, the Queen’s Baton visited all 72 nations and territories in a relay that began in October 2021, carrying a message to the Commonwealth from Her Majesty The Queen. Here, RAD teacher, Lara Cook, shares her excitement at being selected to carry the Queen's Baton for the games.

"What a day! I was totally honoured to be selected to carry the Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games! It was an absolute treat to have been selected out of so many nominees! I was chosen for my hard work in relation to drama and dance in the South West, raising money for dance schools and our local theatre. Additionally all the extra support I give my students in regards to mental health and anxiety currently"

After studying RAD ballet exams her whole life, Lara graduated from the Professional Dancers Teaching Diploma, and has since taught for Elmhurst Ballet School and is currently teaching for Geraldine Lamb Dance School and Kings School & Nursery in Plymouth.

Lara added, "I was determined to not just run the route but to twirl, pirouette and leap my section of the relay as I know that was what my students really wanted me to do."

Congratulations to Lara on the amazing experience of being selected to the carry the Queen's Baton!
