The Foundation Module is available for applicants who reside in countries that do not have the equivalent of A-Levels and allows students to meet the criteria for undergraduate access to the BA (Hons) Ballet Education and BA (Hons) Dance Education programmes of study.
At Level 3 the emphasis is on establishing a foundation of knowledge, understanding and skills upon which students can build when studying dance at Higher Education (FHEQ Level 4). This module establishes the basis for progression to the Faculty of Education’s BA (Hons) Ballet Education and BA (Hons) Dance Education programmes. Students enrolled on the module will study by distance learning with tutorial support using the Module Study Guide, student-tutor communication via telephone, video conferencing, e-mail and the module forum.
The module, which will prepare learners for the study of dance at degree level (FHEQ Level 4) is called 'Investigating Dance: Theory and Practice'. It provides opportunities for students to study dance analysis, safe practice, choreography and performance, by distance learning under the guidance of a tutor. The module content includes an even balance between theoretical and practical tasks, all of which contribute to the achievement of the module learning outcomes.
Assessment is through module study tasks, an essay and performance of a self-choreographed solo, which allows students to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the module content in practical and written form.
Students will be required to have achieved their countries highest level school qualification that gives access to Higher Education.
The module is offered in English.
