Auditions and interviews
Some of our programmes require applicants to attend an interview and/or audition or take part in a telephone interview. These are as follows:
MA in Education (Dance Teaching)
Applicants for this programme will be invited to take part in a telephone/Skype interview.
PGCE: Dance Teaching (with QTS)
All successful applicants for this programme will be initially invited to submit a video audition. If successful they will attend an audition and upon invitation an interview in London, but there are several steps to go through.
The first one is to apply through UCAS Teacher Training. Successful candidates will show in their application that they have a profile suitable to the PGCE:DT programme at the RAD. Entry for this programme is very competitive and we strongly recommend early application to improve your chances of an invitation to audition.
Successful applicants will be invited to submit a dance video. The video should show you performing a solo dance of between 1–2 minutes that you have choreographed yourself accompanied by suitable music. Please inform the Admissions Officer on how it can be accessed as soon as you can.
The solo dance will allow you to demonstrate your choreographic ability, your use of any chosen accompaniment and your ability to project dance ideas. You should talk briefly about the content and structure of your solo.
We suggest that you start preparing the video when you submit your application. If you are invited to present a video, you will be given a week to submit it to the RAD for assessment.
Applicants with successful solos will then be invited to attend a practical audition day in London. Part of the audition day will be a practical class and a teaching extract as well as a group discussion. Further to this, candidates may be invited to stay on for an interview. Candidates will normally be sent instructions two weeks before the audition day.
Please refer to the selection criteria for more details.
