The Faculty of Education is delighted to offer free access to a selection of digital exhibitions
Drawing upon the archives and special collections of the Royal Academy of Dance’s Philip Richardson Library, the Faculty of Education’s digital dance histories projects outline the RAD’s contribution to dance teacher education and training.
1949-2009: A Photographic Exhibition Celebrating Continuity and Change In Dance Teacher Education and Training
Two exhibitions focussed on the RAD’s contribution to dance teacher education and training were presented as digital installations in October 2009 to mark the tenth anniversary of the Faculty of Education as well as celebrate its predecessor, the College of the RAD. The digital exhibitions were curated by Dr Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel, Conference Manager for the Faculty of Education’s 10th Anniversary Celebrations (2009).
Drawing upon photographs from 1949 through to 2009 from the Library’s archives, the exhibition provided an opportunity to see previously unseen photographs associated with the RAD’s legacy in teacher education and training, including insights into students and teachers in action as well as graduation days. Images include: Iris Truscott FRAD and Dame Ninette de Valois teaching PDTC course in the 1980s; selected images from Diploma and Awards Days include Arnold Haskell with graduates (1957), Keith Lester with graduates (1972) and from 1992 with Irina Baronova, the iconic 1930s Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo baby ballerina and former Vice-President of the Academy.
