The Faculty of Education celebrates multiple wins at the IHE Awards

The RAD’s Faculty of Education picks up the Advancing International Education Award and the Leaders in Student Outreach Award at the 2019 Independent Higher Education Awards Ceremony. The awards were presented at the end of the annual IHE Conference during a drinks reception on Tuesday 26th November in Central London.

The Advancing International Education Award recognises an independent higher education provider who has shown innovation and commitment to advancing international education. Through the Faculty of Education, the Royal Academy of Dance has established partnerships with several international universities to deliver RAD dance teacher qualifications to their students whilst studying on undergraduate programmes. To date, close to 100 students at partner organisations across the globe have become eligible for Registered Teacher Status with the RAD. Through the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies, which is delivered to students in over 20 countries and translated into 9 languages, the FoE has demonstrated excellence in exporting UK education to an international market.

The Leaders in Student Outreach Award recognises that students at Independent Higher Education universities and colleges come from a diverse range of backgrounds and countries. This diversity is often the result of unique, inclusive and innovative student outreach and recruitment programmes designed to meet the needs of learners who may otherwise feel precluded from taking a step into higher education in the UK. This award celebrates the RAD’s commitment to student outreach and recruitment by engaging prospective students through initiatives such as Step into Dance, Project B, and ‘Dance Down the Wicket’ and through providing clear and relevant information at all stages of the application journey.

The Faculty of Education also received an honourable mention for Excellence in Student Collaboration, recognising its commitment to partnership and collaboration amongst students and staff to enhance a students’ sense of belonging and support student retention and success.

On collecting the awards, Dr Michelle Groves, Director of the Faculty of Education commented “ I am thrilled that the Faculty of Education has received recognition from IHE and the wider sector in these three areas. With over 1000 students enrolled on Faculty of Education programmes in any one year, and between 400-450 students graduating annually, the RAD has consistently upheld its reputation for delivering high quality dance teacher education and qualifications on a global scale. Our graduates are well sought after throughout the world and these awards are testament to the work we put in to ensure they remain so.”
