Due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the Royal Academy of Dance and the Royal Opera House and have taken the difficult decision to cancel The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition 2020.
The Fonteyn is open to dancers who have passed the RAD Intermediate, Advanced 1, as well as Advanced 2 examinations in Classical Ballet (Advanced 2 with Distinction). Applicants must be current members of the RAD.
Candidates must be aged between 15 and 19 on the closing date of the application, be of pre-professional status and may not have been employed on a professional contract prior to entry of the competition. If you have been offered a professional engagement beginning after the last day of advice for results, you will still be eligible to enter the competition. Evidence is required of the qualification held.
Candidates pay a set fee for a unique week-long creative experience, coaching from world-renowned répétiteurs and choreographers, and full room and board. Candidates are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from the host country.
The entry fee for the competition is £250, which includes all classes, coaching and events throughout the 10-day experience. The Royal Academy of Dance will continue to underwrite the cost of candidate participation by approximately 75%.
Because the expenses in each city differ, we are separating out the costs of accommodation, all meals, chaperones and transportation during the competition. In London this additional cost will be £950. Candidates will stay in accommodation chosen by the RAD and must not make their own arrangements. This will ensure that they are well looked after and able to focus solely on the competition – as well as encouraging them to get to know each other and to develop friendships.
This brings the total cost to £1,200 for the complete experience.
