Meet the ambassadors for this year’s Genée International Ballet Competition:

Céline Gittens - Principal, Birmingham Royal Ballet

"It is a great pleasure to be the ambassador of the Genée International Ballet Competition being held this year in my home country of Canada. I grew up in Vancouver and completed my Royal Academy of Dance exams from Primary to Solo Seal with my mum and Lynette Kelley FRAD. It will be a wonderful gathering in Toronto of worldwide talent."

Alexandra MacDonald - First Soloist, National Ballet of Canada

"My Genée International Ballet Competition experience in Hong Kong was truly exceptional. This was my first trip outside of North America, as well as my first ballet competition, and it was all very eye opening. I entered into classes and rehearsals not knowing what to expect, but once there, I found that the Genée really cultivated a sense of camaraderie among its competitors."

Donald Thom - Second Soloist, National Ballet of Canada

"The Genée International Ballet Competition was an amazing platform to share dance with a group of incredibly talented and inspiring artists from around the world. It was an eye-opening experience to share this beautiful art form on that platform, and was even more special to get to work one-on-one with a world class choreographer, coaches and directors from top companies."

Alex Wong - formerly of American Ballet Theatre and Miami City Ballet

"The Genée was my first international ballet competition and it was really exciting to medal. Our particular year, nobody won the gold medal, but the finalists from our year basically all became principals in companies, which I find amazing! The Genée I attended was held in Birmingham and the directors of BRB and the Royal Ballet were judging. They remembered me later on in my career. It also helped me mentally and physically prepare for Prix de Lausanne which I won half a year later."
