Diet is widely known to impact physical health but it is also important in mental health, affecting mood, cognition and productivity. This session explores this in more detail, assessing the role of blood sugar, gut microbiome, hydration and more. Common mythical claims, about the importance of particular nutrients for mental health, will be explored. Practical tips are given for planning meals, snacks and drinks, that bring the science into real life, with particular attention to the lifestyle of dancers and dance educators. There will be ample time for questions at the end of the session.
Aim
The aim of this activity is to highlight which dietary factors influence both physical and mental health and explain the evidence for this.
