A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain an understanding of how to teach the Grade 6, 7 and 8 syllabi with new resources, focusing on either the female work, or the male and female work. Learning activities will focus on creating appropriate development exercises to encourage an accurate interpretation of the criteria used in the mark scheme of the examination.

Aims

The aim of this one-day practical course is to boost participants’ confidence in teaching of the RAD’s Grades 6, 7 and 8 syllabus through enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the criteria used in the mark scheme of the examinations.

It will:

Look in depth at the philosophy of Grades 6, 7 and 8
Offer a chance to improve understanding of specific areas within the syllabus, particularly in regards to technical, musical and performance aspects of the work, as identified by examiners during examinations.
Reflect on the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances
Provide a platform to discuss, explore and develop strategies to strengthen areas of the work
Support the creation of development exercises for students by defining the requisite skills and knowledge to do so.
Attendees at the course will be better able to understand the ‘how’ of teaching the syllabus, increase knowledge of the assessment criteria and gain insight into how the candidates are generally coping in the examinations.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

Demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique/s at each level
Discuss the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances
Help their learners develop the necessary strength and understanding to achieve the requirements of the assessment criteria in the examination.

Recommended Preparation

Knowledge of the exercises and dances of the RAD Grades 6, 7 and 8 syllabus.

Ms Ana Maria Campos

Licentiate of the RAD College, B Phil from the University of Durham and Tutor, Lead Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance, Semi-Final Judge of the Fonteyn 2026

Ana Maria Campos is an internationally respected ballet teacher, coach, tutor, and examiner with more than thirty years of experience working across Brazil, Europe, and North America.

Throughout her career, Ms Campos has taught in a wide range of settings and has worked with dancers at different stages of their artistic development. Her students have gained places at prestigious professional ballet schools and companies and are now performing internationally. She is widely recognised for her expertise, dedication, and passion for ballet education, as well as for her ability to inspire and nurture dancers to achieve their artistic potential.

As a coach, Ms Campos has had the privilege of working with dancers who have participated in, and achieved prizes and recognition at, some of the world’s leading international ballet competitions and events, including the Jackson International Ballet Competition, Moscow International Ballet Competition, Prix de Lausanne, Varna International Ballet Competition, and Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP).

She has also been involved in the staging and coaching of classical ballet repertoire, as well as new and original productions. These experiences have given her a broad artistic perspective and a deep appreciation for the process of developing, mentoring, and nurturing young artists, both technically and artistically.

Ms Campos regularly serves as a coach and jury member at a variety of ballet competitions, festivals, and educational events internationally. She continues to collaborate with organisations, schools, and fellow professionals to strengthen and expand opportunities for both students and teachers, contributing to the continued development of ballet education and professional pathways.

Her work continues to combine a strong foundation in classical ballet with a commitment to supporting dancers as they develop confidence, individuality, artistry, and the skills required for a professional career.
