Silver Swans® Chair Based Dance

This workshop will give Licensee’s an opportunity to work through the exercises in analytical detail for the purpose of preparing them to deliver the exercises to their own Silver Swans, if they so choose. The content can be tailored to fit the needs of each Silver Swans class, based on Licensee’s knowledge of their Silver Swans. Participants will have an opportunity to create content which can be shared and explored with peer discussion and feedback. This is not a compulsory syllabus. 

Aims: 

The aims of this workshop are: 

• To provide practical experience of teaching the Seated Swans resource, 
• To provide extension activities based on strengthening and stretching for healthy adults and older adults, and 
• To provide practical experience of creating exercises and activities to suit a range of participants, with attention to safe practice. 

Content outline 

Session 1 – Tutor Led Practical 

• Working through exemplar exercises as seen in the Seated Swans resource 
• Guidelines for structuring your class with attention to health and safety 
• Developing practice – Differentiating tasks including adaptations as necessary 

Session 2 – Group work, creating ideas and combinations 

• Sharing and discussion 
• Q&A 

Recommended preparation: 

Participants should have sound understanding of basic anatomy for dance. It would be beneficial for participants to have their own copy of the Seated Swans resource book for reference.
