In this course, participants will learn strategies for creating their own development exercises and enchaînements, with particular reference to music.

Aim

  • To improve knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to the creation of development exercises and enchaînements for ballet 
  • To increase knowledge and understanding of music in relation to the creation of exercises and enchaînements.

Learning Outcomes

 By the end of this course, participants will: 

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the principles of creating effective, imaginative development exercises and enchaînements 
  • Be able to apply understanding of music and musicality to the structuring of exercises 
  • Be able to use music, sounds and voice in the preparation and teaching of exercises and enchaînements

Recommended Preparation 

  • Participants will need to bring the Foundations of Classical Ballet Technique (Blue Book) and the Progressions of Classical Ballet Technique (Red Book) for reference. Available at RAD Hong Kong Shop.
  • Participants can bring a playlist of music covering different time signatures, tempi and musical styles for reference.
  • Knowledge of the Intermediate Foundation to Advanced Foundation (INTF to ADF) Free Enchaînement vocabulary (from the Specifications Section 2 – Content, Mark Schemes and Format, P. 36, 43, 50).
  • Participants may wish to review the Free Enchaînement Guidelines for Filmed Exams and videos (available at Members Area) before attending the course.

RAD Examiner

In 1993, Adeline graduated from the College of the Royal Academy of Dance with the Diploma for Licentiate (LRAD) and also attained the Advanced Executant Certificate (ARAD). 

Since completing the RAD Master of Arts in Education (Dance Teaching) with distinction and receiving the Professor Joan White Prize for her final research project, Adeline continues to find joy in pursuing knowledge with her learners in search of relevant approaches through active questioning and reflection on teaching practices.

Her previous positions include being the principal and director of her own dance school from 1996 to 2018 and a dance elective subject teacher to middle and high school students at an international school in Kuala Lumpur for 12 years. 

Adeline’s current appointment with the RAD Panel of Examiners, along with her role as a tutor for the Continuing Professional Development and Certificate in Dance Teaching programmes, further contributes to her professional portfolio and learning.
