The Introduction to the Intermediate Foundation Syllabi Teachers’ course is a one and a half day practical course in which participating teachers will gain a greater understanding of the content of the Intermediate Foundation syllabi level. 

Aims: 

This course aims to give those attending a greater knowledge of the content and deeper understanding of the appropriate development required for success in the teaching of this syllabi level. 

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of the course participants should understand the: 

  • Aims of the syllabi 
  • Learning outcomes and assessment criteria 
  • Choreographic content 
  • Guidelines on how to further develop technique, artistry, musicality and creativity in students in relation to the content of the examination 
  • Teaching methods appropriate for the delivery of these syllabi 
  • Advice on preparation and procedures 

Content outline/draft schedule: 

The course is one and a half days long, and can be run as part of a three day course with the Introduction to Intermediate syllabi teachers’ course or as a stand-alone 1.5 day course. 

The course would run as follows:

Day one 

  • Morning – three hours including 15 minute tea break 
  • Lunch break one hour 
  • Afternoon – three hours including 15 minute tea break 

Day Two 

  • Morning – three hours including 15 minute tea break 
  • The content will include: 
  • Study of each exercise and enchaînement 
  • Discussion relating to the construction of free enchaînement 
  • Study of development exercises in preparation for variations. 

Optional/Recommended Preparation: 

It is recommended that participants bring with them a copy of the Foundations of Classical Ballet Technique and Progressions of Classical Ballet Technique publications, available from RAD Canada Shop.
