The Stronger Together Seminar II is a custom safeguarding training for RAD teachers created by the Youth Protection Association for Dance (YPAD™). This expanded seminar meets the mandatory safeguarding requirements for RAD teachers.
YPAD™ is based in the United States. Though the education presented here is built upon U.S. standards, YPAD™ recognizes that there may be different standards in other cultures and countries across the globe. It is important to refer to the governance of your home country, state, province, or city to ensure consistent, legal compliance with the appropriate local regulations.
Aims
- Identify key elements for safeguarding dance students
- Gain knowledge for how to promote safety, health, and wellness in youth dancers
- Understand the measures dance professionals can take to create integrity-driven learning environments that serve students’ developmental needs
- Be safety-prepared for emergency situations
- Be able to protect children from harm in a trauma-informed way
- Have the knowledge to develop a mentally healthy performance culture
- Be able to implement healthy communication practices
- Promote artistic integrity and establish a culture of excellence
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the seminar, participants will:
- Understand boundary-setting vs. entitlement and know how to develop proactive strategies for managing studio culture and social media exposure
- Have explored specific wellness programming including nutrition education, mental health resources, injury prevention plans, cross-training, and rest cycles during busy seasons
- Understand how to implement systems, language, and training to uphold the values of an integrity-driven learning environment
- Have the tools to develop safety and emergency protocols including for cyberbullying, social media conflict, and online privacy
- Understand what trauma responses can look like in a dance setting and how to respond supportively
- Have explored pressure and perfectionism in competitive dancers and have tools for resetting identity and motivation beyond the scores, including incorporating mindfulness practices
- Have knowledge of systems for teacher-parent-dancer communication and know the steps for healthy conflict resolution
- Understand what “excellence” looks like in different classroom models

This activity will be hosted on Zoom. You will be emailed details of how to join the activity within five working days prior to the start date.
