Solo Seal CPD Course with Lynnette Kelley, FRAD

Led by Lynnette Kelley FRAD, retired RAD Examiner and experienced dance educator, this course will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the Solo Seal content and the appropriate development needed to support their students’ success. A live pianist will be provided by RAD Canada.

1. Discuss the Solo Seal Assessment Criteria and observe demonstrators applying them in practice. Review the criteria in detail and develop a clearer understanding and awareness of its expectations.
   *Attendees may apply to bring a student demonstrator. Students should not be entering the next Solo Seal examination, but should be hoping to be ready within approximately 18 months. Applications may also be submitted for students who have previously participated but are not planning to take the examination next spring, as well as successful past candidates who would like to demonstrate. 2. Gain clarity on how to achieve readiness and future success, with attention to classical ballet vocabulary, all aspects of Technique, Musicality, and Performance. The course will include questions from teachers, open discussion and participatory learning.
   
3. Receive advice and guidance on the use of space and body alignment, with Benesh notation used to illustrate key points. Please note that prior knowledge of Benesh is not required, as all examples will be explained in detail.

Content outline/draft schedule
The course is one day long. Class will begin at 9:30 and at 4:30, with breaks and lunch being scheduled according to the flow of the day.

Participants should think through questions they may wish to ask. There will not be time to cover all the variations, so please use the comment box to submit your expectations around which you would like to focus on.

Additional information
It is recommended that participants bring with them a copy of the Solo Seal Syllabus book (with Benesh notation) and the Solo Seal music book, if possible.
