Teacher Observation: Advanced Foundation, 1 & 2 Pointe Classes – Dallas

This course looks at some of the principles of technique, performance and musicality which underpin RAD syllabi training. Participants will observe students in Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 pointe classes followed by discussions of how effective teaching methods inform best practice and on-going development and progression. Through observing learning and teaching in action, participants will gain insight into how examination criteria can be applied during training.

Aims

The aim of this activity is to improve participant’s knowledge of how to employ a range
of teaching strategies to help develop technique, musicality and performance of the examination pointe work and Variations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the activity, you will:

• Have an increased understanding of the RAD examination criteria
• Be able to incorporate effective and creative teaching methods in your dance teaching, and
• Have a greater understanding of how students can improve their marks in the Advanced levels pointe section

Course Tutor

Sarah Haslock is a graduate of the College of the Royal Academy Dance and serves as an RAD Examiner and CPD Tutor. Sarah is the former director of the Royal Dance Academy in Atlanta, GA and also holds certifications in Rambert Contemporary Grades, Progressing Ballet Technique, and is a Silver Swans Tutor.

Recommended Preparation

Working knowledge of Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 examination syllabus Pointe exercises.

It is recommended that participants have the Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 syllabus books to refer to during the workshop.
