The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition

The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition

About The Fonteyn

Informally known as ‘The Fonteyn’, our international flagship annual event is dedicated to promoting and rewarding standards of excellence in young ballet dancers. This is achieved by offering candidates from around the globe a unique opportunity to work with world-renowned choreographers and professionals, as well as the chance to perform on famous international stages.

First held in its original form in London back in 1931, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious ballet competitions in the world and represents the pinnacle of achievement for young dancers trained in the RAD syllabus. Formerly the Genée International Ballet Competition, it was renamed in 2019 to mark what would have been the 100th birthday of Dame Margot Fonteyn, the legendary ballet dancer, and our longest-serving president.
