The Autumn CPD will provide teachers with an opportunity to enhance and focus their teaching expertise across a variety of inclusion, dance nutrition and dance medicine topics

Aims:

The overarching aims of the Autumn CPD Online sessions are to inspire and upskill teachers with fresh approaches and strategies for:

  • supporting nutritional wellbeing in dance students,
  • understanding the learning needs of children with Autism and ADHD, and
  • safe practice in training turnout in retiré.

Learning Outcomes

The overarching learning outcomes of the Autumn CPD Online sessions are for teachers to return to their studios with:

  • practical tips and preventative practices to support nutritional wellbeing in dance students,
  • tools for responding positively to unexpected behaviours and supporting learners with Autism and ADHD in preparation for RAD examinations, and
  • a greater understanding of turnout range, with exercises to support strong execution.

Session 3 – The Science of Turnout in Retiré

With a focus on training turnout in retiré, explore why there are so many differing opinions about ‘correct placement’ and the impact of individual anatomy. Gain awareness of various factors that will impact placement in retiré and how to effectively train this position.

Content topics include:

· Introduction and discussion of the anatomy of turnout in retiré

· Assessing turnout in retiré

· Safely mobilising the hips

· Isolation and integration exercises

· Functional turnout exercises

· Barre sequence

Learning outcomes:

· Gain an increased understanding of the anatomy behind a dancers’ available range of turnout in retiré

· Be able to recognise limitations in turnout in retiré and how to cue the student appropriately

· Have a greater understanding of how to improve range safely

· Learn a sequence of activation exercises to master more dynamic control of turnout in retiré

· Experience the impact of these exercises set to music for a classical class setting
