Contact:

A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain an understanding of the content and choreography of the RAD Grade 5 syllabus. Participants will be provided with information relating to the examination criteria in relation to the necessary technical, artistic and musical aspects of the work.

Aims:

The aims of this course are to:

  • Provide an overview of the RAD Grade 5 syllabi and equip teachers with a secure base from which they can expand and develop their knowledge in relation to the syllabus content.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, you will:

  • have a knowledge and understanding of the development of the vocabulary, choreography and music found in the syllabus,
  • have knowledge and understanding of the vocabulary used in Grade 5 in relation to the Foundations of Classical Ballet Techniques book,
  • have an understanding of the methodology and processes of teaching Grade 5, and
  • have an understanding of the Mark Scheme and how it applies of the preparation of students for assessment: Examinations, Class Awards and Solo Performance Awards.

Includes practical exercises and group activities in the studio with your tutor and fellow teachers.

Tutor

Julie Fleming

Dip RBS TTC, ARAD, AISTD

Julie trained vocationally at The Dance School of Scotland and graduated from the Royal Ballet School Teachers’ Training Course. She has had a diverse career – performing, choreographing, teaching and creating resources for study in dance. She has 35 years’ experience in dance, dance training and education.

An Alumni of The Royal Ballet School, she is a Tutor for their Affiliate Training and Assessment Program internationally.

Selected by the RAD Creative Panel as an original Tutor of the new RAD syllabus, she conducts CPD courses for teachers throughout Australasia.

For the RAD Faculty of Education, she has 17 years’ experience in dance teacher training from certificate to post graduate level.

She piloted and guest lectured the elected RAD Access Route at Queensland University of Technology since its inception, for dance degree students within the Creative Industries.

Julie is regularly invited on Faculty for exam intensive workshops and summer schools working with dance students at recreational and vocational levels.

As an Adjudicator, Julie has judged national RAD awards and competitions.

She works at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, in her home city of Melbourne.
