Led by Katharine Hikmet, the RAD’s Safeguarding Manager, and tailored for Canadian RAD dance teachers, student teachers, and studio administrators, this two-part course is unique to Canada, meeting the mandatory safeguarding training requirements and giving you an overview of safeguarding within the RAD and your own teaching practice.

These sessions aim to provide an updated view on what is required to keep children and young people healthy and safe in the dance studio and identify essential child protection resources. By the end of the sessions, you will understand how to recognize possible areas of concern, and know how to respond, report, and record these concerns in the appropriate way.

The second part of the course will have participants individually complete the free online course – Commit to Kids: Foundational Information for Safeguarding Children from Sexual Abuse – which focuses on the scope of child sexual abuse, barriers to disclosure, grooming and boundary transgressions, and how you can help safeguard children from sexual abuse.

Participation in the webinar session and successful completion of the online quiz will qualify for 3 hours time-valued CPD.
