This Youth Mental Health First Aid course equips adults who teach, care for and support young people, with the skills and confidence needed to recognise and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.

Aim

The aims of the online learning and interactive webinar are to:

  • provide an overview of mental illnesses, risk factors, prevalence and impact, and
  • gain an in-depth understanding of how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until appropriate professional help is received, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the online learning and interactive webinar, you will:

  • have increased awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adolescents,
  • be able to recognise and respond to an emerging and worsening mental health problem and understand the interventions and supports available, including how to approach a young person that you are concerned about,
  • be able to apply mental health first aid in a range of crisis situations, and
  • be eligible to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider, upon completion of an online assessment, following the course.
