This two-part practical workshop invites teachers to re-examine the role of language in shaping student engagement, confidence and progression. Through professional dialogue, shared experience and practical exploration, participants will consider how intentional teaching language can deepen learning and inspire students.

These sessions will explore effective feedback approaches alongside the purposeful use of imagery, visualisation and focus of attention as well as intrinsic/extrinsic feedback and implicit/explicit learning.

Open to all teachers at all career stages, these sessions are particularly relevant for mid-career and experienced teachers who wish to refresh practice, gain new perspectives and reconnect with colleagues through meaningful professional dialogue.

Reference will be made to researchers including, Clare Guss-West, Janet Karin OAM, Eric Franklin, Donna Krasnow and Virginia Wilmerding.

Aims:

  • Create a reflective space for teachers to review and strengthen their use of teaching language
  • Extend strategies that support engagement, motivation and student progress
  • Encourage collaborative professional dialogue and exchange of effective practice

Learning Outcomes

On completion of these workshops, participants will have:

  • developed a deeper understanding of effective teaching language and its impact on student engagement and progression,
