This live 1-hour webinar will explore the principles of loading after a student has had an extended period away from dance, such as returning from summer holidays. Loading refers to the physical force being placed on the body and the safe management of reducing the risk of injury through appropriate loading guidelines.

Aims:

  • Discuss the principles of loading, including strength principles
  • Understand load progression and periodisation for dance
  • Understand and identify the watch points if a student is experiencing fatigue / overload as they return
  • Awareness of types of signs or sensations that may indicate overload in a student
  • Respond and action niggles as reported by students
  • Provide insights and ideas into planning your timetable for the week and year regarding appropriate breaks (periodisation)

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the session, you will have an increased understanding of:

  • the principles of loading and strength training in relation to dance
  • how to safely progress loading,
  • how to support students who report niggles, and
  • planning your timetable around safe loading principles.
