This interactive, practical 1-hour workshop is for teachers who are progressing students onto working en pointe. Teachers will learn how to appropriately teach exercises in preparation for pointe with a series of progressions from a physiotherapists’ perspective.
Aim
The aims of this webinar are to:
- provide teachers an understanding of what is required biomechanically of a body to work en pointe and how this impacts the student,
- use an interactive format to explore the concept of pre-pointe preparation as a whole body,
- demonstrate and teach a series of exercises targeting the core, thoracic area, adductors, gluteals and lower leg, and
- enable teachers to gain practical experience of each exercise to utilise with their students in class.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this webinar, you will:
- have an increased understanding of the connection between pointe work and major muscle groups and myofascial chains,
- be able to demonstrate a sequence of exercises to activate the core, lower leg and gluteals,
- be able to layer these exercises into your regular classes, and
- understand the timeframes around improvement after the introduction to these exercises.

Annie Strauch
Annie Strauch (she/her) is a titled APA Sports & Exercise and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and is the Founder of Performance Medicine. Annie is a passionate performance physiotherapist with extensive experience working with professional performers and athletes.
Annie has a special interest in dancers, both ballet and commercial, and Music Theatre. Her passion is bringing together sports science and the arts and providing elite healthcare to the dancing artist. Annie enjoys the challenge of managing the artistic athlete and the demands of the creative dance industries so that dancers are able to have long, happy and sustainable dance careers.
