This Youth Mental Health First Aid course equips adults who teach, care for and support young people, with the skills and confidence needed to recognise and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
Aim
The aims of the online learning and interactive webinar are to:
- provide an overview of mental illnesses, risk factors, prevalence and impact, and
- gain an in-depth understanding of how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until appropriate professional help is received, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the online learning and interactive webinar, you will:
- have increased awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adolescents,
- be able to recognise and respond to an emerging and worsening mental health problem and understand the interventions and supports available, including how to approach a young person that you are concerned about,
- be able to apply mental health first aid in a range of crisis situations, and
- be eligible to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider, upon completion of an online assessment, following the course.
Format
Self-paced online learning followed by an interactive webinar via Microsoft Teams
Includes a presentation, question-and-answer sessions, breakout rooms and opportunities to share your experiences with fellow teachers around the world.
This session is livestream only and will not be recorded.
Required preparation
Enrolment with Bare Wellbeing Services is required following registration of the course.
The link to enrol will be sent to registered participants approximately 3 weeks prior to the interactive webinar.
Enrolment must be completed within 3 days of receiving the link to allow time for access to the online content to be granted and for resources to be sent via post
The online learning content must be completed no later than 3 days prior to the interactive webinar. Please allow approximately 5-6 hours to complete.

- Speakers or headphones
- A safe space for the duration of the session

Registered Clinical Counsellor (through the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Provisional Psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
