The Royal Academy of Dance has announced that it has extended its Registered Teacher Status (RTS) eligibility criteria to include 18 qualifications from fellow awarding societies.

This means those who have trained with select dance awarding societies are able to convert their professional qualifications to RAD Registered Teacher Status (RTS).

Founded in 1920, the RAD is one of the most influential dance education organisations and the largest ballet examinations body in the world, and its teachers must hold the globally recognised RAD RTS, to enter students into RAD exams.

The expansion will continue to foster a more inclusive and interconnected global dance community, widening access to RAD examinations syllabi and inspire more of the world to dance. It creates an opportunity for dance educators to teach a greater choice of syllabi, enabling teachers to expand their dance school offer and to bring more dance styles to their local communities.

Reducing barriers to education and participation

Alexander Campbell, Artistic Director of the RAD said: “Registered Teacher Status with the Royal Academy of Dance is an important and globally recognised standard which promotes excellence and joy in dance teaching around the world. As we expand our pathways for students and participants, I’m delighted that we will recognise alternative routes and fellow awarding bodies, reducing barriers to education and participation. I look forward to welcoming qualified dance teachers into our global community, sharing with them our wonderful syllabi and our ambitions to inspire the world to dance.”
