Adult Ballet – RAD Syllabus (18+)
We now offer RAD Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate ballet classes for students aged 18+. These allow adults to work towards a Vocational Graded exam.
The Vocational Graded exam syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet, developing technique, music and performance skills, and introduces pointe work for female candidates. Students should have a minimum of two years of recent ballet training for Intermediate Foundation and three for Intermediate.

Adult Intermediate Foundation
This allows adults to work towards a Vocational graded exam. The syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet, developing technique, music and performance skills, and introduces pointe work for female candidates. Students must have at least two years of recent ballet training to apply for Intermediate Foundation. You will be assessed by the teacher in the first few classes.
Entry into the class does not guarantee entry into the exam.
Adult Intermediate
The adult Intermediate class follows on from the Intermediate Foundation. It develops technique, music and performance skills. To apply, you should either have at least three years of recent ballet training, or have completed the Intermediate Foundation exam, or have achieved RAD Grade 6 ballet (or equivalent). You will be assessed by the teacher in the first few classes.
Entry into the class does not guarantee entry into the exam.
Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2
The exam syllabus provides an in-depth study of ballet, developing technique, music and performance skills. To apply, you should have completed the preceding qualification. You will be assessed by the teacher in the first class.
Entry into the class does not guarantee entry into the exam.
Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, and Advanced 2 classes are of mixed age.
Adult Ballet – non-syllabus and alternative genres (18+)
A wide range of weekly non-syllabus adult ballet classes are available, catering for all levels and abilities, whether you have no previous ballet experience or are at a professional level.
The variety of classes offered provides you with the opportunity to progress through several levels and with the additional option to move onto adult RAD exam syllabus sessions. All are taught by experienced and inspiring teachers, in dedicated dance studios, and with a pianist.
Classes available
Beginners/Beginners Plus
Suitable for those with little or no experience in dance, this class teaches the basics of ballet technique with the aim of moving up a level after a year.
Applications close after half term.
Beginners: These classes are aimed at complete beginners with no prior experience.
Beginners Plus: This class is more suited towards students who have had a small amount of experience but still consider themselves to be a ballet beginner.
General
This class is for those with at least two years of recent ballet training and who want to develop their skills and technique.
Applications cease after half term.
Advanced
For those at advanced level, or professional dancers who would like a fast-paced and challenging class.
Applications are accepted throughout the term.
Adult Discovering Repertoire (18+)
Discovering Repertoire is a classical ballet performance programme, an innovative new concept in training and assessment from the RAD.
Uniquely, the programme includes well-known classical repertoire, meaning you will learn dance choreography that you have seen on stage, set to music you know and love.
Classical Barre and Technique Enhancement (18+)
A non-syllabus classical ballet class suitable for all levels. Classes consist of a classical ballet barre followed by focused work on technique, musicality, and artistry.
Adult Pointe Classes (18+)
We offer 3 levels of adult pointe classes, all designed to strengthen pointe technique and confidence.

Intermediate Foundation Adult Pointe
We are thrilled to announce that the RAD Dance School is introducing an Adult Intermediate Foundation Pointe. This class is designed for students that are looking to improve their pointe technique and confidence by focusing on the intermediate foundation pointe exercises. Advanced 1 & Advanced 2 Pointe
A classical ballet class with a strong focus on developing of pointe work. This class is suitable for students who are currently enrolled or have taken Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 classes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students at Advanced levels and above to strengthen and develop their technique.

Adult Pointe
This is a general adult pointe class that is designed for students with prior pointe experience. To enrol, please email danceschool@rad.org.uk to express your interest.
Silver Swans (55+)
Specially designed for older learners, Silver Swans ballet classes will help improve your mobility, posture, coordination, and energy levels.
Whether you’re an experienced dancer, have briefly dabbled, or are a complete novice, we welcome all older learners of any ability. Register your interest now and we’ll be in touch as soon as a space becomes available.
Other genres and programmes
Adult Contemporary (18+)
Contemporary is versatile and can be danced to almost any style of music, or be mixed with other dance forms to create new styles of movement.
Adult Jazz (18+)
Following a jazz warm-up and technical exercises, you will learn choreography in various styles including lyrical, commercial, and musical theatre. By developing routines during each class, you will gain a solid knowledge of the style before moving on to new choreography.
Stretch and Strength (18+)
Stretching keeps muscles flexible, strong and healthy, allowing a greater range of motion for dance and general wellbeing. Developing strength will improve posture, core, balance, pointe work, and speed required in all dance genres.
Move to the Musicals (55+)
Designed for older learners (55+), ‘Move to the Musicals’ classes improve posture and balance through exercises and movement sequences inspired by musical theatre and jazz dance. Most importantly, you’ll have fun and enjoy the sense of well-being that dance brings.

RAD Dance for Life (55+)
These low-impact dance classes will mobilise your joints and strengthen muscles while coordinating your body through various techniques. From classical to cabaret, sessions boost physical and mental wellbeing, bringing joy to movement and dancing.
Led by a specialist teacher, classes include supported stretch and strengthening exercises using a chair and the ballet barre, as well as standing exercises in the centre.
This offers a great way to maintain your mobility and energy in a supportive, friendly environment.
