This half-day practical workshop will introduce the RAD’s Seated Swans resources. The resources have been created to give Silver Swans Licensees examples of appropriate exercises which can be adapted and made relevant for Licensee’s individual learners.

This workshop will give Licensee’s an opportunity to work through the exercises in analytical detail for the purpose of preparing them to deliver the exercises to their own Silver Swans, if they so choose. The content can be tailored to fit the needs of each Silver Swans class, based on Licensee’s knowledge of their Silver Swans. Participants will have an opportunity to create content which can be shared and explored with peer discussion and feedback. This is not a compulsory syllabus.

Aim

The aims of this workshop are to provide:

  • practical experience of teaching the Seated Swans resource,
  • extension activities based on strengthening and stretching for healthy adults and older adults, and
  • practical experience of creating exercises and activities to suit a range of participants, with attention to safe practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have:

  • an increased understanding of creating a chair-based dance class for adults and older adults, and
  • a greater understanding of how dance, stretching and strengthening can be taught in an interactive, accessible and inclusive manner, allowing access to those who may find a whole standing class too challenging, and introducing extension work for able adults.
