If you require copies of material from the archive, please be aware that requests for copies of archival materials are charged on a case-by-case basis, and not all of the collections are able to be copied. For more information, please see our Archival Materials and Images page.

Copyright

Copyright law must be adhered to at all times. For the purposes of research and private study, individuals are permitted to make single copies of copyright material not exceeding:

  • one single chapter from a book, or one article from a single journal issue or set of conference proceedings, or
  • 5% of a given work
  • 10 pages in the case of a single poem or short story from a collection

For users who are unable to visit the library in person, photocopying for the purposes of research and private study can usually be carried out by library staff on behalf of individuals, subject to the following conditions:

  1. The applicant must sign a Copyright Declaration form confirming that:
    a) the copy provided will not be used by anyone other than the applicant, for any purpose other than research or private study;
    b) he or she has not previously been supplied with a copy of the same material by this or any other library; and
    c) to the best of the applicant’s knowledge, the same material is not required at roughly the same time by any other person, for substantially the same purpose. Requests for the same material by more than one individual will be refused.
  2. The applicant must pay a fee to cover the cost of producing the copy

Please note that we are unable to access the Benesh Movement Notation scores at this time, as they are currently undergoing digitisation.

Photocopying for Commercial Purposes

If you are copying for commercial purposes then you will need to purchase a license from the Licence Scheme for Public Libraries, which can be purchased from library staff for a fee of £22.50 plus VAT. More details of the license can be found here.
