Be a Teacher

Project B isn’t just about getting more boys into dance, we also need more male dance teachers as role models and our Bursaries will help support male trainee dance teachers.

RAD Teachers and Project B

Project B saw a range of resources and opportunities for RAD teachers to attract and retain more boys in their own schools. Project B Ambassador Iain Mackay created fun choreography inspired by popular male motifs to inspire boys to get up and dance. The new vocabulary ideas were  aimed at catching boys’ attention and making movements accessible and more easily retained – it provides an outlet for their natural energy but builds towards technique and structure. The choreography was released as inspiration for boys all over the world at all levels of ability to enjoy watching and learning.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Resources

Male-focused vocabulary has become the basis for a free CPD resource, designed in collaboration with the RAD’s Artistic Director, for RAD Registered Teachers wanting new ideas on how to engage and recruit more male students, or to reinvigorate the boys they are already teaching. Many teachers are perhaps already using these kinds of approaches with your boys – if so, you can benefit from the buzz we are creating in the press and on social media, in your own marketing by using #RADProjectB.

Preventing Bullying online CPD course
This online programme aims to help you understand, recognise and prevent bullying behaviour – who may be affected, the effects of bullying, and how to prevent bullying in organisations, as well as what you can do as an individual to play your part. This online activity is worth 4 hours of Time-Valued CPD and can be completed in your own time.

The RAD continue to work on a range of Continuing Professional Development options that support the teaching of dance to boys.

Project B teaching case study

"Boys should feel really proud that they dance and not have to feel that they should go along with the crowd. It’s great to see Project B empowering more boys to dance."
