The Introduction to the Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance Syllabi Teachers’ course is a one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain a greater understanding of the content of the Pre-Primary and Primary syllabi level.
Aims:
The aims of this course are to:
- Give attendees a greater knowledge of the content and deeper understanding of the appropriate development required for success in the teaching of this syllabi level.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, you will:
- aims of the syllabi,
- learning outcomes and assessment criteria
- choreographic content of the Primary in Dance examination and the Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance Class Awards,
- guidelines on how to develop movement skills, expression, creativity and a musical sensitivity in young children,
- teaching methods appropriate for the delivery of these syllabi, and
- advice on preparation and procedures for the Primary in Dance examination and the Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance Class Awards.

Includes practical exercises and group activities in the studio with your tutor and fellow teachers.

Debra Whitten
Debra Whitten (A.R.A.D Solo Seal) is an Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and is also an appointed Solo Seal Examiner and Standardisation Examiner. After graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Diploma in Dance, Debra opened her own school the Debra Whitten School of Dance which offers classes from 2 years- vocational full-time training. As a well-respected RAD Examiner, she travels throughout Australia and overseas, which gives her a high exposure to up-to-date training methodologies, syllabi content and examiner criteria. Debra has trained numerous successful and outstanding dancers at both her own school and as a faculty member of the Queensland Dance School of Excellence for over eighteen years.
