The Royal Academy of Dance is proud to present the Jacqueline Morland Awards 30th Anniversary.

The Jacqueline Morland Awards are Queensland’s flagship RAD event held annually in Brisbane. Open to RAD students across QLD and northern NSW, the Awards are an opportunity to showcase your ballet skills and perform on a professional stage in front of a live audience and panel of highly respected adjudicators.

All students who participate in the 30th Anniversary of the Awards, take part in an open class semi-final, that is performed in front of a live audience of family, friends, teachers and the adjudicators. After the open class, the adjudicators select and announce the finalists. Finalists return the following day to perform their chosen RAD exam dance or variation, as a solo, in front of a live audience and the adjudicators. In addition to these performances, the finals also include group performances by students who have been training with special guest choreographers. At the end of the finals the prize recipients for the Jacqueline Morland Awards are announced.

Venue:
Thomas Dixon Theatre, 406 Montague Rd, West End (Brisbane)

Dance Performance Groups

For those who don’t wish to compete in the awards, the Dance Performance Groups are an excellent opportunity for students to be involved – learn a short performance from our guest teachers with 12 hours of tuition over 4 weekends, and then perform in front of a live audience of family and friends, at the Awards event. Find out more about these groups here.

At 15, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne under the direction of Gailene Stock AM and upon graduation in 1997, accepted a position with Queensland Ballet.

Promoted to principal artist in 2003, she performed a vast repertoire of renowned classical and contemporary ballets. Retiring as a principal artist in 2014 following the final performance of MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, Rachael moved into QB’s business team mentored by Li Cunxin AO and Dilshani Weerasinghe. Her interest in philanthropy and sustainability has led to her commitment to build a legacy of support for the arts in Queensland. She envisions a future where ballet and great artistic experience are accessible to all, enriching people’s health, wellbeing and connectivity with community.

Rachael maintains a connection with the artform as a character artist with the company, returning to the stage in MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet as Lady Capulet (2014, 2019) Derek Deane’s Strictly Gershwin (2016,2023) Liam Scarlett’s Dangerous Liaisons (2019).

Rachael is currently Director of Development and Endowment for Queensland Ballet and in 2025 reunites with Li Cunxin AO with a bold vision to build the endowment that will support the company and academy.
