This series of 6 workshops will provide an in-depth understanding of effective teaching methods, leveraging the fundamentals of classical ballet technique, by breaking down the ballet class into components and conducting analysis of its technical elements. Individual workshops will include topics on Barre work, Ports de Bras and Adage, Pirouettes, Allegro, Boys work and Pointe work.

Aims

The aims of this workshop are to:

Enhance participants’ understanding of classical ballet technique.
Increase understanding of the purpose and development of exercises.
Develop effective teaching strategies and methods to convey concepts to students of varying ages and skill levels.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the workshop, you will:

Have an increased understanding of classical ballet technique as it relates to the workshop topic.
Have gained practical experience of effective teaching strategies and methods regarding the specific component of the class.
Understand how to incorporate these strategies into your dance teaching practice.

Format

In-person practical workshop

Includes practical exercises and group activities in the studio with your tutor and fellow teachers.

Participants should be well versed in subject terminology
Recommended for those that have a minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience

Lindsay Ellman-Brown

Lindsay was born and raised in Zimbabwe and then moved to London in 1985 and trained at the College of the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Returning home to dance with the National Ballet of Zimbabwe, she also choreographed and produced full-length ballets for the company. Lindsay ran her own ballet school with over 250 students for 10 years in Zimbabwe before immigrating to Australia. She holds a Diploma and Licentiate from the RAD, as well as a master’s degree in Dance Teaching from QUT. Becoming an RAD Examiner in 1999, Lindsay travels extensively both nationally and internationally, examining and teaching.
