Crystal received her early ballet training at Jean M Wong Ballet School in Hong Kong, where she completed her RAD examinations and received scholarships in their International Summer Dance Schools. She then pursues full-time training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). Crystal has obtained her BA (Hons) in the Art and Teaching of Ballet at the College of the Royal Academy of Dance London Headquarters and graduated from the University of Durham. After graduating in 1999, she moved to Melbourne, Australia, where she further pursued her study in a Graduate Diploma in Choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts and obtained her post-graduate diploma from the University of Melbourne. Trained and worked under Craig Phillips, she became a certified Pilates Instructor at Dance Medicine Australia (DMA) in 2000 and since then has worked closely with dancers in Australia. Her days in Melbourne working closely with Gelsey Kirkland at Dance World 301 allowed her to gain insights into the art of fostering artistry from the great artist.

Currently based in Sydney Australia as a freelance teacher, she regularly shares her knowledge with studios like Ecole Ballet and Dance Theatre, Alegria Dance Studios, Conlan College, Danceworks and the McDonald College in Sydney. She also tutors at RAD intensives holiday courses interstate to help prepare students for RAD exams in Australia.

Crystal has guest taught for various schools in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and around Australia. She has toured Perth, Melbourne, and Auckland, New Zealand with International Ballet Workshops (IBW) and RAD International Summer School in Malaysia, guest teaching alongside world-renowned teaching faculty in the industry. Her involvement in dance adjudication includes the Canberra Dance Festival and Scholarship Audition Classes at Betsy Sawers Grades & Vocational Awards hosted by RAD ACT Panel.

She has also completed the prestige RAD examiner’s training program under the guidance of former Artistic Director of RAD Paula Hunt and has been serving for the RAD examiners’ panel ever since. She travels regularly for RAD examination tours around the world.

In 2020, she was invited to take on the role of a Practical Teaching Supervisor for the CBTS teacher training course for the RAD, passing on her knowledge to the younger generation of ballet teachers. She continues to do so in their new Certificate of Dance Teaching teacher training course as a tutor.

Her recent appointment as a RAD CPD tutor will allow her to share her knowledge with practicing RAD teaching members globally.

She enjoys meeting new people and is grateful to share her teaching in the hope to inspire and be inspired by everyone who crosses paths.
